Ted Talk

I found this TED talk (see bellow) on Darwinian theory of Beauty and although the speaker Denis Duton is very interesting and the content of facts and philosophies of Beauty interested me equally without dragging the topic out for too long and numbing me senseless. This was inevitably supported by the interactive presentation situated behind him on a large screen in which he spoke over as the visual sequences played out and that was what engaged and stimulated my learning most of all. That way of speaking or how I would relate it as a lecture lightened up the learning rather than slide by slide of text ... he emerged voice, interactive visuals as well as text to engage all learner profiles and to make a subject that could be particularly dry very engaging. This way of lecturing or topic introduction can easily be applied for fashion theory workshops I could engage a typical art student through interactive visuals rather than stationery, along with text and audio to transfer information and enhance my learners knowledge on the topic hopefully being just as successful as Duton by not numbing my learners senseless.

My reflection on the group micro teach using explain it all application

The micro teach session using explain it all application on the Ipad was really useful and I can see what it can be used for in different environments. After exploring the application we had to make a ten minute micro teach session using the application and its facilities. It was tricky allot of us felt as though it was just a spread sheet but this was the wrong assumption. When we attempted to run our short video images nothing appear only our text and titles this happened because the whole video had to be on record start to finish so, having realised that I would have a rough idea what I wanted to say if preparing for a classroom and create a video recording my voice discussing the video and all the information through, text such as keyword, visuals, video and so on. The application is a handy tool.

Mobile technologies

Mobile technology is a extensively exercised and researched subject, actively adjusting to developments in technology and culture, also encouraging toward a prospect of advancing pedagogies for formal education (institution) and informal education (leisurely) environment in support of a mobile ephos to learning. Something perhaps not far obvious from what we already understood and associated learning to be present in more than one environment. This accessibility of constructing, collaborating and communicating in a global context all from the comforts of home, school, work and commuting within our daily lives and at any time. We could regard these attributes of social media as a means to enrich and encourage a constructivist approach to learning and educating, having said that, it is a general necessity that's exhausted in our daily social lives although a 21st century development a wax tablet that was mobile, able to be handled in one hand and reusable through methods of re melting the wax existed from our ancient progenitors, it is interesting to see how we have adjusted from then this innovative new concept to how we now exhaust and under appreciate its possibilities. This motion of accessing your interests through your mobile technology is ambivalent and largely apparent with most at its least owning a good quality mobile phone. These ' technologies have promised to bridge the gap between home and schools, raise academic performance, and level the playing field for all students, regardless of ethnicity or income level' (seo2013,p.19)
These adjustments create further opportunity for social enriching pedogogies through a range of possibilities and facilitation for learner engagement, 'several decades of research support the view that it is the activity that the learner engages in, and the outcomes of that activity, that are significant forlearning' such as Tergan 1997; Gholson on and Craig 2006 (Helen Beetham 2013, p.31-49) Emphasizing on engagement of activity a further understanding of Biggs constructivist approach can be reiterated research pro dominantly about design and it's application through means of guiding assumptions through clearl and applied constructivist pedagogical approaches, at its core a learners experience is emphasized on the learner interaction with a designed activity. 'Thus, Biggs uses the term constructive alignment to indicate that...the guiding assumptions about learning should be based on constructivist theory. The relevant point is that the alignment process cannot proceed without first examining the underlying assumptions about learning, and then adopting teaching methods that align with those assumptions'(Helen Beetham 2013, p.31-49). Therefore a better understanding of learner activity depends heavily on a learner personal and social ambition and motivation. This theorises that a percentage of learning within social, group and individual context must be stimulated through mobile technology but emphasized as independent and responsible development, much like most adult learning. Alongside of this individual motivation and reason for engagement will be heavily influenced on a learners choice of mobile engagement which overall will influence educating and the learner outcome. 'As technology-enhancing learning tools become truly powerful in their capabilities, and global in their scope, so it becomes more feasible to remodel the educational enterprise as a process of empowering learners to take reflective control of their own learning' ( Helen Beetham, 2013,p.31-49).

Trendland Blog

Trendland has a website page, blog, twitter, facebook, pinterest so on...it is all worth following if you’re interested in the domain of fashion, art, photography, design, culture, music, video and shopping. This online access gives readers a daily update on any of the above, the posts are relevant and up to date with clear outline on who wrote the article and what time it was posted. With the content of the page.. posts are short bulletin type articles from various authors but as the author’s names are included therefore you can always research the author and find out more, which I have done and come across good reference material. Images are of good quality large in size, stimulating and frequently alternated. The page is easy to work around and is visually a nice looking blog....Check it out ;D

Use of Microsoft applications

I most often use Microsoft Word and on the odd occasion I use Microsoft power point and excel. Microsoft office has been used for my academic writing and other research writing that I am developing on the side of my university work, therefore, a tool I still use weekly if not on a daily basis. The other applications are used on a less frequent basis however during my short spell in the college teaching I used it fairly often as a method of teaching the students and also in conferences I have been a delegate in. Excel then has been used for time sheets and collecting of figures within a part time job. I can’t express much enthusiasm in other applications as my experience with them is none existent.

Daily reflection

It goes without saying that ICT enhances teaching and learning for all age groups. However having said that it is forever developing and changing so to use ICT correctly can be difficult particularly if you’re not ICT savvy! To confidently educate I believe you need to be confident in your tools... Starting a blog today reminded me that I don't easily get on with blogging and I envy those who can just do it! Given time I hope I can get the ball rolling as it can be a good resource particularly if it has a strong direction and purpose. As a teacher putting your point of view across about a designer, application or programme, exhibition ect and have individuals with similar interests be able to see and discuss opinions is enriching and can also continue outside of the class so that's an update on blogs...the other topics where ICT in reference to Web2 technologies having been shown a clip it give me a taster to all that's possible! I expect students would already be active with this and I will look into it more to see how I can use it to benefit a class of students. On social networking we are aware that it’s a public space for most things but we can also agree that it's a active, instant and time saving resource for finding out information I.e. a question can be asked and answered in minutes..Yes the answers may not all be useful but it can be selective and before you know it someone's posted a link, told you to check it out and you've got access to something you may not have ever come across. So in that aspect it's great!

Following bloggers

Well....I found a blog but I can't follow it on here? Only on google+...can someone help me :/

A little on me..

I have always been heavily influenced by visual images and the visual life we all live in. Since a child I drew pictures, made things, got messy with paints, glue, fabric, sticky tape...Anything! Just name it ...so I approached learning as a more hands on thing...well that's how I at least felt more at ease at doing. So it came to no surprise to me that art and design was my strongest subject throughout secondary school therefore opting to do a BA Hons degree in General Illustration (narrowed down after attending a foundation diploma in art and design)seemed the right decision for me. I developed academically as we'll as on a personal level expressing through my art works I became a more confident practitioner and the degree was a route that I am thankful to have chosen. I then later realised how prominent fashion was as a source of inspiration and upon realising this, I increasingly began to research both consciously and subconsciously with a clear direction. Work of influential designers throughout the eras and movements in art, fashion and design triggered a passion in me to learn and find out more theoretically and from this I decided on my next academic challenge. Academically, writing has never ever been a strong quality of mine and still is not...however opting to do a masters degree Investigating Fashion Design purely theory lead to my surprise did not scare me...it speared me on! I was full of excitement and on completing the course gained a great deal of satisfaction. It was an exciting and unique experience. My excitement in the subject areas is a quality I hope to transfer to my students the level that I have studied also determined what level of teaching I would like to work towards. Decoding information is something I want to influence others to investigate...reasoning why things are what they seem? Or not? Questioning, being intelligent about their choice making and reasoning why they have chosen in that way. My aspiration to teach is equally a experience I am looking forward to getting started

so ..... let the beginnings begin!

having recently commenced my PCET course.... my second day in and my angst is still yet to disperse. Its a strange feeling excitement but terror aswell..I'm waiting for the panic to start ringing in my ears! silly i guess! so openly and new to blogger a topic addressed earlier today was on social networking in reference to Pinterest we discussed reasons why it could be used as a positive tool for students within and outside of the classroom. I myself use Pinterest on a daily basis i annoy my fiance terribly because of how often i spend killing the hours browsing through several pins. ....So what is it that I enjoy? I guess initially its the visual aspect the fact that images are instantly at my fingers more so than Google or any other and that i can be selective or general with how i browse the photo library can be one of sophistication in the sense a range of resource levels can be brought up and reached through links to journals, book and other carefully addressed areas of interest. Suddenly as a illustrator or when researching during my educational ears Pinterest has been a source of inspiration a space that i can enter and immediately i am stimulated by what i am seeing. It also influences me in general i.e few weeks back was my mothers birthday I wanted to bake a cake so i searched key word Cakes and walla! cakes cakes cakes and not only that instruction on how to! Fabulous move aside Delia Smith we have the modern cook book interactive and to hand!
